1961:

Barack Obama born in Honolulu, Hawaii

1967:

Moves to Indonesia with his mother Ann Dunham and step father, Lolo Soetoro.

1971:

Obama moves back to Hawaii to live with his grandmother and go to school.

1979:

Graduates high school. Attends Occidental College.

1981:

Transfers to Columbia University.

1983:

Graduates from Columbia University with a degree in Political Science, majoring in International relations. Obama then goes on to work for Business International Corporation.

1985:

Moves to Chicago to become a community organizer.

1988:

Starts at Harvard Law School.

1990:

Elected as the first black president of the Harvard Law Review.

1991:

JD From Harvard Law School

1992:

Marries Michelle Robinson.

1993:

Obama becomes an attorney at Miner, Barnhill & Galland. Becomes a lecturer at The University of Chicago.

1995:

His first book, Dreams from My Father is published.

1996:

Elected to Illinois State Senate.

1998:

Reelected to Senate.

1999:

Daughter Malia Obama born,

2001:

Daughter Sasha Obama born.

2002:

Reelected to Senate.

2004:

Delivered the keynote speech at the Democratic National Convention. Elected to Senate after defeting Alan Keyes.

2006:

Barack Obama's second book, The Audacity of Hope is published.

2007:

Announces his candidacy for the Democratic presidential nominaiton.

2008:

Defeats Hillary Clinton to become the first Black man to represent the democrats for the presidency.
